Iceland June 2011

The second trip to this amazing place,  I focused mainly on the Gyr falcons, and witnessed stunning spectacles like hunting ptarmigans, passing on food to their partners in flight,…On one occasion I was able to photograph a female Gyr falcon devouring the best parts of a ptarmigan, that the male brought in earlier. Sitting at the edge of a huge cliff, in a heavy storm, she posed very nice, and gave me lots of time to observe her and take many pictures, before she took off, to bring the ptarmigan to her youngsters in the nest on the cliff. Truly a wonderfull experience…

Since it was still very cold in June because of the late winter, conditions were still quite hard, but at least ducks and divers, grebes and skuas didn’t seem to bother and were displaying all over the place.
